Dear Franklin Lakes Elementary Parents,
The purpose of this letter is to provide you with important information for our upcoming Valentine’s Day celebrations on Friday, 2/15/19. Valentine's will be exchanged on this minimum day during our class parties to minimize additional interruptions to instruction. Keep in mind that bags are not to be distributed at school.
Please note the following for class party food items:
As a school, we maintain nut-free classrooms and ask that you check labels as you purchase food. If you are not sure contact Nurse Linde with questions.
The Policy #3542.1, Health and Wellness, provides for leniency of sweet treats during school celebrations.
Foods of Minimally Nutritional Value may not be served to students. These include:
- Certain Candies
- Soda Water
- Water water ices, which contain fruit or fruit juices, are not included.
- Chewing Gum
- Hard Candy: Includes such food as sour balls, fruit balls, candy sticks, lollipops, starlight mints, after dinner mints, sugar wafers, rock candy, cinnamon candies, breath mints, jaw breakers, and cough drops.
- Jellies and Gums: Includes such foods as gumdrops, jellybeans, jellied and fruit-flavored slices.
- Marshmallow Candies
- Fondant: Includes such foods as candy corn and soft mints.
- Spun Candy
- Candy-Coated Popcorn
Students may exchange Valentine’s Day cards with treats that qualify as Foods of Minimally Nutritional Value, but will not be permitted to consume these treats in school. Students will be expected to bring these treats home for consumption. All treats must follow nut-free guidelines. If you have questions please contact Nurse Linde.
