Biography

Welcome to 5th grade!!

Mrs. Butters is very excited to be teaching 5th grade this year. She graduated from The College of Staten Island with a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education and continued her education there and obtained a Masters degree in Elementary Education. Mrs. Butters comes to HMR with a great deal of teaching experience and a true passion for teaching and understanding young minds. She began her teaching career in New York City as a fourth grade teacher and earned tenure in the New York City Public School System before leaving to stay home to raise her two wonderful children. She spent several years teaching pre-school at Care A lot Nursery School in Wyckoff, New Jersey and then worked in the Wyckoff Public School System teaching 2nd and 3rd grade.  

In her spare time, Mrs. Butters enjoys reading, traveling, dancing, going to concerts, cooking and spending time with family and great friends.

Mrs. Butters is thrilled to be teaching  5th  grade at HMR this year.   

Teaching Philosophy

Mrs. Butters believes that children need to know that they are in a safe and respectful environment when they come to school.  She recognizes that each student is an individual and learns differently.  Mrs. Butters strives to create a classroom environment where  a child’s individual needs are met and they feel empowered to excel.  She hopes to bring a real joy of learning that will last them a life time.
